Tania Ghosh<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tania Ghosh is a PhD holder in population genetics who had no prior coding experience or computer science background. Due to the nature of her work, Tania later engaged in a brief training where she utilized R and Python for DNA sequencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I started with R, and then Python came because it was the most popular language at that time. And so, while learning Python, I realized that there’s a huge world of data science out there, and there are so many things you can do,” Tania says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the training had spurred a passion for coding in Tania, she needed more than this to deeply appreciate genetics, particularly DNA sequencing. She had developed a keen interest in data visualization, seeking a comprehensive program to advance her basic data skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incredible testimonies of NYCDSA alumni inspired Tania, urging her to know more about what the school was all about. She successfully landed a data science role at Effectual, particularly because her capstone project matched the company’s project objectives at that time. “I had done my capstone project on fraud detection, and the company I was interested in actually got some projects on fraud as well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With her job search success, Tania acknowledges that students would get the best from the NYCDSA program if they worked hard. She said,  “There’s no substitution for hard work. You have to work hard, and you have to practice your code.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
