What Is Information Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Information technology involves storing, processing, and manipulating data. It is the development and implementation of computer-based information systems, including software and hardware. 
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information technology helps solve businesses or organizational problems at any scale. An information technology department helps with the installation, implementation, and repair of computer systems. In addition, other daily tasks include tech support, network maintenance, and security testing.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An organization\u2019s IT department also follows standard policies and procedures to ensure IT systems reflect the organization\u2019s needs. They also handle the physical components of IT infrastructure, such as routers, servers, PCs, and laptops.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information Technology Skills<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are planning to enter IT and want to make money in the IT field<\/a>, then you\u2019ll need the following IT skills to qualify for an entry-level, management-level, or executive-level position. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the most basic and important skills an IT professional needs is coding. A software or a web development job requires the use of code, so a candidate with coding skills is a must.

No matter what the issue is, troubleshooting will be a process of trial and error. You will at times have to reboot the computer multiple times or use various techniques to solve the problem at hand.

See troubleshooting as problem-solving, where you repair failed products or processes to make them work again. Sometimes troubleshooting might only cure the symptoms, but the root of the problem will still be there. You will have to find the root cause so it doesn\u2019t repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APIs (Application Programming Interface)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

APIs allow interactions between two applications so they can communicate with each other. For instance, when you check the weather on your phone or use messaging apps you are using an API.

APIs are tools that allow programmers to write applications rapidly. Many operating systems and applications have different kinds of APIs. For example, Windows has many API sets that the system hardware or applications use.

A part of your job as an IT professional will be to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities. You will be responsible for tight deadlines and deliverables. Being self-directed and self-motivated will be key traits as part of the management of these tasks.
