From Physical Therapist to Web Developer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Deen Matulin graduated with a BS in Physical Therapy. After working for a while, he felt the medical field wasn\u2019t for him, and he saw Zuitt as a path to a new career in a future-proof field. Software is only going to become more prevalent as time rolls on, and Deen relished the chance to try something new while entering a booming field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith recent trends, I am seeing that the web is set to be the go-to platform for everything,\u201d Deen said. \u201cWith cloud services, and even web applications gaining traction, it presents endless possibilities in terms of what we can do with the web. Being a web developer is a good start to being on top of all that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deen decided to attend Zuitt because of the company\u2019s reputation. He was doing his research into good web development programs, and the bootcamp kept showing up in his results. Before he started the bootcamp, he wanted to spend some time learning on his own, but his experience with self-study prepared him to accept the support at Zuitt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPrior to joining the bootcamp, I’ve committed myself to months of self-learning,\u201d Deen said. \u201cI initially planned to go through this route but I quickly found myself in need of mentorship. \u201cAs someone who has experienced the entirety of the bootcamp curriculum, I find that it is beginner-friendly and ramps up the longer it goes,\u201d Deen said. \u201cThe only things someone needs are interest and drive to learn. Deen\u2019s not alone in the value he found in the course. Our other alum also saw the rising need for tech workers and decided that the bootcamp would help her give better guidance to her clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Career Counselor Preparing for the Future of Work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mariko Tofuku<\/a> is a Japanese career counselor who worked for over a decade as a controller and accountant at a German company. Mariko\u2019s background isn\u2019t in tech, and she\u2019s still working as a counselor after completing her bootcamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may seem odd that she decided to attend a coding bootcamp without trying to make a career change afterward, but Mariko believes that coding is important for everyone in every career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor about 10 years now, people have been saying that what we need in the future are English and coding,\u201d Mariko said. \u201cIn fact, since 2020, programming classes have been compulsory in [Japanese] elementary schools. I think the world will be a very different place in 10 years when the current elementary school students start to work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariko learned English from Filipino tutors for seven years at RareJob English, a former company of Zuitt CEO Tomohisa Kato. She discovered Zuitt\u2019s course on Twitter while undergoing English coursework. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was taking an online English tutorial lesson taught by Filipinos, and I tweeted about it,\u201d Mariko said. \u201cAnd the president of the online English school retweeted it before the former president, Mr. Kato liked it. I went to his timeline, and found that he was now the president of a company called Zuitt, announcing that he was going to start classes globally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through her job as a career counselor, Mariko was well aware of the prominent role coding will play in the future of work. She felt it was the perfect time to take the course, and decided to sign up. As she was entering the course after its 80th cohort, she felt it would be more refined, and she\u2019d already had a positive experience with another product of Tomohisa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her work was one of the main motivators that got her to take the course. She\u2019d tried to impress upon her clients that tech was important in forming a well-rounded career, but she felt that she didn\u2019t have the proper knowledge to get her point across. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo matter how I tried to [convince] them, it was hard to do so as I didn\u2019t know coding first hand,\u201d Mariko said. \u201cThat\u2019s one of the reasons why I decided to take this course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariko was worried that her proficiency in English might hold her back from success but decided to move past her fears and jump into the course. In doing so, she noticed several benefits that she felt might help convince her clients who are seeking career advice. For example, coding may be a way for data entry professionals to increase efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you work at a company, you probably download CSV files and process them in Excel in your daily work,\u201d Mariko said. \u201cIt takes an hour or two to process the file, including taking out commas and correcting misalignments so that the numbers fit correctly in the cells. However, if you can code, the process can be completed in five seconds. This is what impressed me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with increasing efficiency, Mariko felt that these skills might make employees stand out to their supervisors. Given the career road-mapping Zuitt students already perform, they\u2019d have a sense of the path through a company\u2019s ranks. As such, she opined that the skills obtained at Zuitt can help them reap career benefits quickly.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat would you do if you were a manager? If a person who can do a job in five seconds that used to take one or two hours joins the company?\u201d Mariko said. \u201cI would highly value that person [and] may deserve one and a half times the compensation of their colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariko was impressed with the possibilities of Zuitt\u2019s career services as well. As an individual that\u2019s helping people find their next career move every day, she has seen what\u2019s possible with coding after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cZuitt has career advisors who can help you find a job,\u201d Mariko said. \u201cI heard that they provide very specific support such as finding jobs at companies overseas. So, I think it\u2019s good for people who want to spread their wings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Mariko wasn\u2019t already set in her career, she feels as if she would have taken her fellow advisors up on their offer. She believes that everyone will have to learn to code eventually and that Zuitt gives people the opportunity to pursue worldwide success. It may take some courage, but she says the benefits outweigh the risks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnfortunately, if you stay in your comfort zone, you can\u2019t have much hope,\u201d Mariko said. \u201cZuitt\u2019s Developer Career Program is very good for people who want to go global. If I were younger, I would have become a developer and aimed for the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
