Red Academy overall gave me a really insightful introduction to the UX design space. I studied the full-time program in Vancouver. Both lead instructors are really resourceful and did an amazing job of guiding us through the learning experiences instead of spoon-feeding us with information. The best part of Red Academy had to be the real client community projects. I had a chance to work on 3 projects for mobile app, web app, and e-commerce site. These projects gave me to gain both soft skills...
Pros
-amazing experienced instructors on the Vancouver campus for a full-time program -real client projects that you can showcase on your portfolio -collaboration with UI class to learn more about UI design -networking opportunity with...
Cons
-expensive compared to other programs probably because of the real client projects -very intense, so make sure you mentally prepared your mindset to commit to working hard -would love more feedback on the final prototype from instructors...

In 12 weeks program Working with real clients was a positive and rewarding learning experience. It felt like going to work rather than being on a course which I hope puts me in good stead when looking for a job in the real world. Tutors were all supportive and approachable with a wealth of knowledge from a wide range of real-world experience. This in itself helped me to see beyond the course and opened my view outside of Red. They were always there for support and a kind ear when things got...
Pros
PPD and career coaching
Cons
They’re permanently closed .

Not a bad school if they had better bussiness menagment team

I was doing a 2 year full-stack developer program and by the end of the 1st year because of COVID-19 (although not the main reason), the school declared bankruptcy which left hundreds of international students in a very tough spot. This could happen to any private school but the way they handled going bankrupt was very poor. They informed us about the closure of the school in a zoom meeting. Super unprofessional.
Pros
Great teachers. Good school vibe. Plenty of room to learn for people who actually want to do so.
Cons
Job support nowhere close to what they promised. Some unnecessary classes that no one took seriously (although, if taught well, would be very useful).

Red Academy was a great experience. The combination of a knowledgeable instructor, eager classmates and real-life projects allowed me to understand the design process at such a fast pace. However, it’s all about how much effort you put in as an individual and use the learnings as a catalyst to becoming the best designer you can be.
Pros
You work with real clients who require UX/UI work. Most other schools I researched at the time did not provide this.
Cons
There were a lot of students in my class for one instructor.

Having a great experience studying at RED Academy so far. Enrolled in the full-stack designer work-study program. Currently taking the UI course and will be taking the UX course afterward. Courses are structured to include lectures (instructors giving lectures or walking through design software or guest speakers coming in for a talk) and workshops (students working on projects in class). The lectures are fairly easy to follow along. Workshops are helpful when you need help from instructors/TA...
Pros
Courses are project-oriented. A few projects with real clients. Interdisciplinary collaboration on projects with real clients. Good alumni network. Guest speakers coming in to share their experience in the industry. Nice workspace and...
Cons
Projects with real clients are less structured and the quality of clients may vary.

RED Academy Questions

Who started Career Karma?

Created 2 years ago

So Career Karma was started by Artur, Ruben and myself out of our own struggles career transitioning into Tech. Our journey took place in 2014-2015 and if it wasn't for the three of us doing it together we wouldn't be here today. Once we got our high paying jobs in tech and I was working as a Software Engineer ... I say an incredible opportunity for others like me who were trying to learn how to code on their own but failing to complete their transition. Three years into us...

How do you successfully pass the technical interviews for Flatiron and Hack Reactor (Software Engineering and Cyber Analytics) ?

Created 1 year ago

Good question. They are very different so I would recommend doing prep courses for both to try it out. However, then decide which specialty you're most interested in and go for those technical interviews. In preparation, definitely complete the prep course. The next steps for you should be to ask the admissions officer about the type of questions that are going to be on the technical interviews. What resources do they recommend you review to get accepted? What they think will...
