New digital experiences made possible by emerging technologies such as augmented, virtual and mixed reality (jointly known as “XR”) and voice interaction are changing the way we live and work. As these emerging technologies expand from gaming and entertainment to include more utility consumer and enterprise applications such as augmented e-commerce, navigation, banking, collaborative work and fitness, XR is poised for explosive growth, as are the career opportunities for those who can design and develop these next-generation user experiences. Developed by NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering, the Professional Certificate in UX & Emerging Interaction Design is a comprehensive six-month program created for UX designers or individuals with visual design experience who are ready to make the shift into creating user experiences with these new and emerging interaction patterns and possibilities.

As real-world, commercial applications for augmented, virtual and mixed reality technologies—jointly known as extended reality or XR—proliferate rapidly in gaming and industries beyond, the demand for software engineers and developers with experience building in these environments is growing in tandem. This surge has put companies from virtually every sector on the hunt for experienced or trained developers and engineers with AR/VR experience and skills that they can bring into XR development. The Professional Certificate in AR/VR Development and 3D Graphics was developed by a team of XR professionals associated with NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering to provide the skills and knowledge that companies such as Apple, Wayfair, Google, and Verizon value as they make the shift to XR development. The seven-month program provides traditional software engineers and developers (or those with computer science-related degrees) with the XR essentials needed to build experiences in a game engine, and to use scripting to create, navigate, and customize 3D graphic assets to construct virtual environments. Participants will also explore the XR development ecosystem and project development workflow to create a presentable prototype.
