The Propulsion Academy boot camp was held online the all time for obvious reasons. For the first two months we had in morning lectures that lasted around 3 hours. And in afternoon we had to do are exercises. It’s very intense course. The amount of the information can be overwhelming. Specially for a complete beginner. I recommend at least a good knowledge of CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. Before you begin the course they give me a prework which they said will take like 2 weeks to complete. I would...
Pros
They have a good curriculum that you can access all the time, even after the boot camp. The teachers and TA are very helpful. They will help you to get in touch with employers.
Cons
A lot of information in short amount of time and they will not stop if you fall behind. It’s not a degree. It’s a course. You won’t get grades for it.

Propulsion Academy is so far the only institution which offers this state-of-the-art intensive coding bootcamp here in Switzerland. The curriculum is based on the need of the todays job market. It gives you a great overview as well hands-on practice with the ability the create your own portfolio to show potential new employees. It's very demanding program.
Pros
You get a great overview as well as fundamental coding experience. The teaching assistance are very helpful. Depending on your previous knowledge, challenging exercises are given to be solved. You get the opportunity to work in a team on...
Cons
Because of the COVID situation, it was not possible to meet in class but propulsion academy provided an excellent online teaching environment. They have moved to a bigger and newer facility, but we were not able to use it because of the...

I am very thankful for this experience. I learned how to make simple app/web platforms or e-shops from scratch. As well as how to use new technologies and languages. I saw how to solve problems and in many different ways.
Pros
We got basic knowledge and know-how. TA was very helpful. I spread my linked in network and I connect with great people. In the end I am happy that this program was online and I can come back to lessons anytime.
Cons
3 months was not enough to uderstand this content properly. It would be nice to have 1 more month for recapitulation and finishing all projects or at leat some active TA support.

Exactly what I needed

I had a very good experience at Propulsion because of the instructors, value for money, quality of education, job support and networking
Pros
Networking, it gives a title and you learn very fast
Cons
It is time consuming and tiring, sometimes I felt overwhelmed by the amount of new concepts. However this was expected for a bootcamp, nothing comes without an effort

Moving from Journalism into working with Data, I wanted to find a career that could marry both. I learnt about Data science and tried to get into the field by self-teaching the tools like python and R. That only got me so far. This is where Propulsion came in. What made Propulsion stand out to me was that it went beyond just teaching the tools required for pursuing a career in data science and went into the fundamentals of statistics and the mentality required to make it far in the field. Also,...
Pros
Forced you to think on your feet Plenty of support from both lecturers and teaching assistants After-class talks from data scientists in the field Real-world projects to cut our teeth on
Cons
Some teething problems with taking the course online One or two guest lecturers were not as engaging but did bring unique insights relating to their work.

Great curriculum. Every day starts with theory and goes into practical coding. Amazing support from the teachers and assistants, as well the staff for all belongings. Hands-on for co-working and project work. In this phase, I gained the most practical experience. The Tech-Stack is very useful and fits what the market is demanding. I really would like to go as well in the Data-Science fulltime course. Thanks to the whole Team for this amazing 3 month!
Pros
There are working amazing mentors. They were there for me every step of the way. Very great career development.
Cons
I honestly do not have any complaints.

After working several years as engineer, I deciced to move on data science through a coding bootcamp to quickly get the skills. Propulsion Academy totally met my expections. The 3 months data science immersive program were exhausting but such an amazing experience! One of the best decisions in my life that made me grow professionaly and humanly. If you're motivated and eager to learn, this is for you:)
Pros
- 1 month prework before starting the course - highly skilled teachers from various backgrounds - professional-oriented with many meetups, talks and career support - final project (1 month) to highlight what you have learnt for your...
Cons
- Program not always in line with the most required skills on the job market - Price (relatively expensive regarding similar bootcamps in Europe ; but reasonable considering "swiss prices")

I'm glad having attended this 12 weeks bootcamp which covered HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, Redux, Python, Django, Docker. The pace is fast and already the pre-work is challenging if you have only basic knowledge. During the bootcamp the pace is fast and basically every day will push you to your limits. Once you reach the final project you'll be amazed how much you learned and you'll contribute significantly to it. With this bootcamp I was able to grasp a broader perspective of full stack web...
Pros
The community are great people and the atmosphere is very familiar. Very good and modern stack which adapts continuously. Challenging curriculum which will get the maximum out of you.
Cons
Too many instructors, one per framework would make the learning experience more smooth. Personal feedback on daily exercises would foster learning progress. This matters more when remote.

A great experience overall

A program with a curriculum relevant to today's web-development and a fast pace of learning. If you go in, there isn't a day where you don't leave with your brain all overworked. You really have to give it your all to keep up. The pre-work given is suitable for absolute beginners, although that is clearly harder, and does manage to level out most people that fully complete it.
Pros
Comfortable location in the middle of a tech hub and public transport connections, a fun environment (with frequent table tennis matches!), challenging course. Class size is small, you get a comfortable desk with an extra screen, and the...
Cons
Although the curriculum is very relevant to what is on the market right now, the amount that you actually end up learning is slightly exaggerated - not because the course isn't intense, because it is, but because there's just a limit to...

The data science program was a great way to understand and acquire the latest in-demand skills and gain access to a network that allowed me to transition into an industrial role from academia. The format of the course makes you get your hands dirty which is essential to learning the key concepts. The fellow participants, with their varied backgrounds, also add to the richness of the program. The instructors take their time and are always available for the students. For the final presentations,...

Young bootcamp with great teachers and TAs. A good curriculum that really prepares you to enter the job market.
Pros
Great support from the staff and especially teaching assistants. A third of the program is spent on a team industry project with a local company, working on solving real problems. This provides tremendous hands-on experience and a level...
Cons
Being a pretty recent program, the curriculum does tend to be in flux which can be confusing at times, but each batch is getting a newer improved version that keeps pace with industry changes.

I really enjoyed the support starting from the application process up to the job search after the bootcamp. Of course, also the 3 months of studying and coding was amazing. The atmosphere is great and you learn a lot. I started from 0 and now am a Web developer!
Pros
- Atmosphere and People - Curriculum covers a lot of relevant technologies - A lot of practical exercise and assignments to understand fully what was explained during the lectures
Cons
- It is really a lot to grasp in 3 months and the pace is pretty fast. If you have no prior experience, you might need 1-2 months after the bootcamp to go over some topics again and fully understand them.

Who started Career Karma?

Created 2 years ago

So Career Karma was started by Artur, Ruben and myself out of our own struggles career transitioning into Tech. Our journey took place in 2014-2015 and if it wasn't for the three of us doing it together we wouldn't be here today. Once we got our high paying jobs in tech and I was working as a Software Engineer ... I say an incredible opportunity for others like me who were trying to learn how to code on their own but failing to complete their transition. Three years into us...

How do you successfully pass the technical interviews for Flatiron and Hack Reactor (Software Engineering and Cyber Analytics) ?

Created 1 year ago

Good question. They are very different so I would recommend doing prep courses for both to try it out. However, then decide which specialty you're most interested in and go for those technical interviews. In preparation, definitely complete the prep course. The next steps for you should be to ask the admissions officer about the type of questions that are going to be on the technical interviews. What resources do they recommend you review to get accepted? What they think will...
