Savvy was the best course of action for me. After returning home from a mobilization to Guantanamo Bay, I decided to take a bootcamp to become a developer (a life long dream of mine). I had a bunch of money saved up, so I could afford to put my complete focus on it. My cohort was in Nashville though they're based out of St. Louis. Everything was what I expected from the bootcamp. Pros

* Constantly updated curriculum to keep up with changes in the industry * Part-time 4 days a week, 3 hours a night. * Super helpful Job networking and career building. * May be able to qualify for funding or help on tuition.

Cons

* Can be a little pricey if paying entirely out of pocket though you can pay in increments

I attended the April - June 2019 Savvy Coders Cohort and during my time there I learned the skills and tools to do what I am now doing as a full time job and loving every minute of it. Before Savvy Coders, I was working dead end jobs and literally dreading going to work every day. Now I have a career doing something I absolutely love and it pays way better than any job I've ever held in the past!! Give Savvy Coders the chance to launch your success like I did. You will not be disappointed.

Pros

My favorite part about this program was learning the JavaScript material. Without that knowledge I wouldn't be able to accomplish things I do every day now.

During the coronavirus pandemic, my cohort was switched to remote classes and even before all of that, we lost our teacher! The people in charge of SavvyCoders stepped up and adjusted to the issues at hand, making all of it a smoother transition for the rest of us. Everyone is very supportive and they do their best to give all the students equal opportunities!

Savvy Coders' month long web development course is broken down into 4 week segments. Week 1 covers the Fundamentals of Computing, HTML, CSS, JS and building your first website. Skills students learn in Week 1 include using the terminal, basic markdown, interacting with the DOM, HTML tags and stucture, CSS styling, version control with git and GitHub and basic JavaScript fundamentals. Week 2 is all about Functional JavaScript and learning about the key principles of programming with the language of the Web. Lesson modules include library usage with underscore.js, advanced variable and function use, JavaScript/browser, interactions through the DOM, adding web interactivity with JQuery, implementing video and audio through HTML5, introductory design principles for the web and software design and testing. Week 3 goes into Object-Oriented JavaScript and using JavaScript to delve-deeper into the industry standard of code design through Objects while building your portfolio. Look for lessons on object creation and manipulation, extending Objects through inheritance, using Objects in software, mastering Chrome Developer Tools and building a fully-functional website for your portfolio. In the final week, Week 4, students will explore Advanced Implementations and Web APIs. Students will build applications for larger-scale deployment and connect to other parts of the Web through APIs. The final lessons in this module include adding geo-location functionality with Google Maps API, implementing secure payment processing with Stripe, building your own APIs, deploying applications on a large scale and using backend-as-a-service.
