Personal touch. The teachers and staff always made themselves available to any student and former students, who needed assistance. Knowledgeable Instruction. My instructor works in the software development field. He provided real world experience where we, as a class, built a functioning application. We used the same methods used in industry today. Great Experience. Every step of the way PDX code guild made a professional environment to learn and connect with other professionals. Ultimately,...
Pros
Knowledgeable instructors, connection to the coding community, and provides a professional workspace to learn in. Education on how to land a software gig. They provided me with a professional setting for interviews.
Cons
Job placement is not their strong suit, which I know others have answered to this as well. There are no guarantees in life.

Great School + Smooth Transition to Remote post COVID

Our class transitioned to remote less than halfway through the course, and our instructor Merritt did a great job adapting and keeping everything moving. Really great setting to learn the fundamentals of web development. Reasonable school days, from 9:30-4:30 and a fairly in depth summary of the basics needed to get a web application off the ground and learn to solve problems for yourself.
Pros
Great instructors, very small class sizes, positive learning environment.
Cons
There were obviously some challenges in switching to remote, and it could be frustrating not having the face to face contact, but that's not really on PDX Code Guild, it's on COVID.. would have loved to present our capstones in person.

PDX Code Guild provided a solid foundation in programming. While the curriculum focused on Python and Javascript with some frontend foundations, the skills I learned easily transferred to other languages. The instructors are knowledgeable and the small class sizes meant there was a good mix of solo and group projects, without a huge emphasis on pairing.
Pros
The instructor to student ratio was great - I really felt like I could get individual attention and answers to questions when I needed them. I also preferred the small class sizes compared to other programs.
Cons
The curriculum lacked any emphasis on deployment or maintenance of applications, as well as debugging and testing, which I found to be a major gap in my knowledge once I was in the workforce. There was some job finding support, but no...
