About Bloom Institute of Technology (BloomTech)

Bloom Institute of Technology (BloomTech) is an online coding bootcamp for aspiring full stack web developers, backend developers, and data scientists. BloomTech online lectures mimic in-person classes and cover in-demand skills for breaking into tech. Formerly known as Lambda School and founded in 2017, the bootcamp was rebranded to BloomTech in 2021.

BloomTech programs are always geared toward providing accessible education to students from different backgrounds at an affordable rate. Although $15,000 to $30,000 for bootcamps might seem like a hefty sum, it is still much more affordable than the average university tuition of $35,331 per year.

The online coding school is best known for its deferred payment model. The BloomTech deferred tuition option allows students to attend BloomTech programs without making down payments. BloomTech payment options will only arise after the student graduates and secures a job that pays at least $50,000.

To ensure that students can meet their financial obligations, the BloomTech job placement services team provides one-on-one career assistance to students. After all, the success rate of the school is tied to the success of each student. If you are qualified, you can apply for the BloomTech scholarship and reduce the burden of payment.

As you will see in this BloomTech review, the online school had a job placement rate of 74% in 2020 with 71% of all graduates getting a job within the first 180 days. The average salary for these graduates is $62,000, significantly higher than the $46,599 average for American workers.

To get started, you have to take the BloomTech bootcamp prep for your respective field of study along with an orientation session. BloomTech online programs will run for about 24 weeks starting with the fundamentals of the course and ending with a capstone project or apprenticeship program.

BloomTech Application Process and Interviews

The BloomTech application process is straightforward and it starts with filling out the BloomTech application form online. You will need a valid email address for account registration or you can sign up using your Facebook or Google account.

After your account has been created, use the BloomTech application checklist to ensure that you are following the right steps. You will be asked to choose between learning how to become a data scientist, backend developer, and web developer. Select a timezone and class schedule that works for you, and choose a BloomTech tuition option.

The next application step for any BloomTech program is to take the 15-minute online assessment called the Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test. There are about 50 questions across verbal, math and logic, and spatial reasoning topics.

If your interest is data science, you will subsequently take the data science skills challenge which should be completed in 45 minutes. Those interested in the development course must know how to code in Java and take the Java skill challenge which runs for about 30 minutes.

Students who pass the assessment will be invited to submit details of their educational background and wait for the final decision. Currently, there is no BloomTech interview process so do your best during the assessment to increase your chances of admission.

Applying for lambda you will have to pass an initial coding test determined on a level of experience you input into their database. Prepare for a codewars kata level 7, or leetcode easy question if you choose "Experienced - built full application." -- Overall it was a great process though. We have a slack channel to talk w/ our classmates in, and a slack channel to see what lambda students get jobs in the field. I've not yet started the actual classes yet so no information on those. If you are looking for an online BootCamp, then this is it. Get ready to code and sleep. You will get the social support needed to code and continue coding and the structure to focus on code and not get stuck in tutorial hell.

Deciding on Bloomtech (formerly Lambda School) was the most consequential decision I've made in my life. I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to break into the technology industry. The technical skill taught are exactly what you need to get that first entry-level job. The soft-skills and networking practice you get is invaluable. Definitely consider the time requirements before joining. It really does require 40+ hours per week. It isn't a pipeline to a job. You get out of it what you...
Pros
Top-notch career services. Valuable and marketable skills. The labs unit is worth its weight in gold and directly resembles the real-world working environment.
Cons
The pace can be inconsistent. At times it felt too slow and at times it felt too fast. It requires 40+ hours per week. It's pricey.

It's not the perfect bootcamp, but still a great option.

I thought this school is a great place for someone who has no coding experience to get their foot in the door for a career in tech. I myself came from a 10-year customer service career and the only coding experience I had was a semester in high school learning Java. No clue about data analysis or machine learning. The full-time course is tough and leaves little room for a working adult, so having some savings and taking 6 months off is necessary(you can work on the weekends, but could lead to...
Pros
Very supportive staff. I had to drop out once due to medical issues and they were very understanding. Great for beginners It was not a sink or swim mentality when the curriculum was developed. There are many points of contact when you...
Cons
The quality of teachers is mixed. Everyone is knowledgeable, but some teachers are fantastic, while others leave you wanting. This becomes a problem when you have the teacher for a whole month. Not enough time is focused on databases,...

I am a spring 2022 graduate of BloomTech's Full Stack Software Engineering bootcamp. Overall, I'm very happy that I chose BloomTech. The program prepared me as a junior full stack dev, on a tech stack that is common in the industry, and in a schedule that was manageable as a parent with young kids. They also helped me find a job at a large tech company, in the Bay Area, paying 6-figures, through one of their partnerships. I'll get into specifics under pro's and con's.
Pros
(1) TIMELINE / SCHEDULE: BloomTech was the only bootcamp to offer a full stack software engineering program, that ran Mon - Fri, 8-5pm. As a father with young kids, I simply could not do a Mon - Sat, 9am - 9pm program that had me working...
Cons
(1) CONENT: The course content (write up and videos) can sometimes not completely align with the content for that day. It's never completely off, but between that and the sometimes sub-par explanation of a topic, makes the pre-reading...

I started the "Full Stack Web Development" course in April 2021 and ended up graduating November 2021. It took me a couple of months before I got an internship at a small start up as a Full Stack IOS Developer (Applied on LinkedIn). I was at that internship for about a month when I heard back from one of the companies that has partnered with BloomTech for an interview. I ended up having two interviews before getting a great offer with signing bonus, benefits, etc. I 100% recommend for anyone...

The staff is absolutely amazing, and if you have a question, most of them will do everything they can to assist. You get exactly what you put into Bloomtech, and I really enjoyed the Labs experience. Who started Career Karma?

Created 1 year ago

So Career Karma was started by Artur, Ruben and myself out of our own struggles career transitioning into Tech. Our journey took place in 2014-2015 and if it wasn't for the three of us doing it together we wouldn't be here today. Once we got our high paying jobs in tech and I was working as a Software Engineer ... I say an incredible opportunity for others like me who were trying to learn how to code on their own but failing to complete their transition. Three years into us...

How do you successfully pass the technical interviews for Flatiron and Hack Reactor (Software Engineering and Cyber Analytics) ?

Good question. They are very different so I would recommend doing prep courses for both to try it out. However, then decide which specialty you're most interested in and go for those technical interviews. In preparation, definitely complete the prep course. The next steps for you should be to ask the admissions officer about the type of questions that are going to be on the technical interviews. What resources do they recommend you review to get accepted? What they think will...
