Codam is an unbelievable experience which I would highly recommend to anyone who is seriously considering programming. It is tough but it is precisely because it is hard that it is also an incredible learning opportunity. After one year at Codam I was able to totally switch my career path, I got a job in the AI team at Deloitte which I would never have been able to get without the skills that Codam gave me. Skills are at the core of Codam’s value proposition. It is skills and not simply a piece...
Pros
Free, skill based, learn by doing
Cons
Not an accredited study which means that you do not get the usual benefits of university life. Also misses a social aspect sometimes

It is incredibly hard, but your peers, exercises, atmosphere, make it a a great experience. Honestly the hardest thing I have done when it comes to intellectual exercises. I had to open up to people all the time and be open not knowing, because I could not figure out everything my self, I had to contribute to the conversation, I had to put my self a side to help others with code, with emotional support, believe me 10-12h 7 days a week for a month, behind a screen is brutal, ohh but so worth it....
Pros
Probably the end of the piscine when I was working in a exercise called BSQ where you have to find the biggest possible square in a give map. Me and friend I made wear working hard and it was amazing just to be with some on barreling the...
Cons
You have to be picky to find some cones, but there are some, there are a lot of people trying to get in and not every one has a spot or a shot, if you don’t make it time to apply for student hostel(Codam takes care of that for you, but you...

Teaches you to think like a software engineer

Well this is not a bootcamp. It's a full-time 3-5 years long project based education. It also doesnt have any instructors or lecturers. But in my experience it's a good thing as the school forces you to learn on your own and with help from your colleagues - which is what you would do in a professional setting. There is always someone more advanced in the topic you are exploring(by building programs or algorithms) and you can always find the solution. One of my favorite parts about the school is...
Pros
Group based projects. Training rigor and thinking of a software engineer. Freedom to explore various sub-fields in tech. Mostly self-paced
Cons
Lack of clear schedules can lead to unhealthy work habits.

Switched from Business major to Codam and am now successfully employed

You will not become a computer scientist by going to this school, but you will learn to code for sure. To get accepted into the school you need to survive a month long on spot coding challenge. It will be exhausting, there will be ups and there will be downs, but the ultimate test is can you be persistent and work in a team, because that is what it takes to be a coder. Since there are no teachers in the school, you follow an online curriculum independently. Thus, you get accustomed to googling...
Pros
Peer to peer learning Modern iMac computers Friendly community and very motivated atmosphere Staff constantly working to improve school Curriculum is very practical Curriculum also has various software development branches, so you can...
Cons
Each project has a description and requirements. Sometimes the requirements are not clear and the use of language is not the best, since docs are translated from our mother school in Paris. But school is working on it and will improve it.

Codam Coding College does not have teacher or lectures. Students are part of a gamified curriculum where they learn from each other and resources they find online. This sets the them up for success in a professional role by giving them the tools to work together and autonomously to creatively problem solve complex ideas. The peer to peer learning teaches students learn to learn and with the tech industry constantly changing, this is a huge key to success. The curriculum is done at the students...
Pros
Autonomous and team working skills. Learning to learn (peer learning). Free curriculum. Beautiful building with features such as a game room and music room. Supportive community of students and staff.
Cons
As of yet, Codam is not an affiliated school, so students are not able to get loans to help them pay for their living expenses during schooling. Codam and its students are working hard to change this.

I'm going to keep this short. Codam Coding College is unlike any other school you've seen before. It's peer 2 peer learning and hard curriculum prepare for you the real world and teach you how to think as a programmer instead of just learning the theory like in regular schools.
Pros
Peer 2 Peer learning. Project based Curriculum. No teachers. 24/7 Open. Completely free.
Cons
1 Month testing period to get in wich is really hard with 7 days a week for 10 hours a day.

Codam offers a free education in software development. At Codam we start coding straight away in C. The aim of the first few projects is to get to understand the basics of programming and to learn how certain functions work behind the scenes (we wrote our own libc using no functions except malloc, free and write, so no printf of putstr either). After we get the basic down the projects aim to cover more topics within CS (sorting algorithms, graph theory etc.). The main aim for Codam is to teach...
Pros
At Codam you get to learn at you're own pace, working on practical assignments, by yourself and in teams. As stated before Codam teaches you how to learn and adapt to each problem you face, so when you are hit by a new technology, it is...
Cons
One con would be that there are no teachers (hence the low rating on instructors) to ask any questions if you can't figure it out by yourself, this is easily fixed by asking your peers or to look it up (as is intended with the whole...

An exciting hardcore way to learn to code.

Codam Coding College is a peer to peer learning college. You're thrown into it straight on, with only your peers to help you. This can be a little jarring at first, but you'll quickly notice that it helps a great deal with sharing knowledge. Starting off in a low level language like C has many advantages such as learning the fundamentals early on, but there are various projects that teach you many other things leading into web development, dev-ops and graphics as well. You get to make the...
Pros
Really flexible system that allows you to work weekends, take vacations whenever and learn at your own pace. You'll quickly make friends and learn to code together in a team! You have an internship early on which will help you get...
Cons
Requires a lot of discipline as there is no real schedule. You need to keep yourself motivated and that could be difficult for some people, however, you will quickly notice if you're unable to do it after the first 4 week entrance piscine....

Who started Career Karma?

Created 2 years ago

So Career Karma was started by Artur, Ruben and myself out of our own struggles career transitioning into Tech. Our journey took place in 2014-2015 and if it wasn't for the three of us doing it together we wouldn't be here today. Once we got our high paying jobs in tech and I was working as a Software Engineer ... I say an incredible opportunity for others like me who were trying to learn how to code on their own but failing to complete their transition. Three years into us...

How do you successfully pass the technical interviews for Flatiron and Hack Reactor (Software Engineering and Cyber Analytics) ?

Created 2 years ago

Good question. They are very different so I would recommend doing prep courses for both to try it out. However, then decide which specialty you're most interested in and go for those technical interviews. In preparation, definitely complete the prep course. The next steps for you should be to ask the admissions officer about the type of questions that are going to be on the technical interviews. What resources do they recommend you review to get accepted? What they think will...
