Codeworks Reviews: Is Codeworks Worth It?

Filter by star rating

Yes, Codeworks is worth it. Codeworks reviews show that the school is rated highly by current and former students. Read any Codeworks Software Engineering Immersive review or Codeworks Web Development Immersive review, and you’ll see that the curriculum and instructors are especially well regarded.

You can really learn to code with Codeworks, which is why many Codeworks bootcamp reviews underscore the job-oriented, intensive coding curriculum. Graduate Shaun Martin said, for example, “I would highly recommend Codeworks to anybody interested in becoming a developer.” Many Codeworks reviews stress that the work was demanding but prepared them to be full-time software developers.

The Codeworks Software Engineering Immersive course has to be one of the most challenging -yet rewarding- things that I have done in my life. The course hours are long (12h a day, 6 days a week) and the information comes at you fast, but the support you get from their dedicated staff is invaluable in order to transform yourself from a rookie into a fully-capable programmer.
Pros
One of the most outstanding things for me was the way that learning and knowledge is shared and reinforced in the Codeworks environment. Your lectures are conducted by the expert tutors (who are always on-hand to answer questions, whether...
Cons
This is not much of a con, per-se - just more of an observation. For me, adapting to the immersive learning style was initially difficult. You don't get a whole lot of time to get comfortable with a topic before you move on to something...

Codeworks has an amazing curriculum that takes you from 20 to 80 instead of 0 to 60. The best thing about the curriculum is that apart from advanced JS, backend frameworks and frontend frameworks Codeworks also teaches you the essential foundations of coding, such as algorithms and data structures, where many coding schools focus mainly on the 'hot topics.' The staff is very experienced and helpful, and the location is amazing! All in all a great learning experience that has exponentially...
Pros
- Data structures and algoritms, very good basis - Highly immersive - Great staff
Cons
- Unadvisable if you are unsure if you have a passion and dedication for coding

Best decision I ever made!

I was a student at Codeworks between January and April 2021 at the Berlin Campus. I took the full 12-week Software Engineering course. I would highly recommend Codeworks to anybody who is interested in becoming a Developer. I signed up for the course as I was looking to start a career as a Developer and was impressed by the reviews I saw online. I can honestly say that it really did live up to what I was hoping for. 6 weeks after the course finished, I had multiple job offers from different...
Pros
Pros: - The campus in Berlin is really nice with great facilities - The team in Berlin and the wider company are super friendly and helpful - The content and tech stack is very relevant in regards to what company and employers are using...
Cons
Cons: - It is expensive - The lectures are not given face-to-face, they are pre-recorded videos with Q&A sessions afterwards

I got everything they promised

Besides that my general experience was great, I think the most important things are the facts or the end result, what I mean with that is if at the end you get everything they promised you or you get what it's really important to you. For me that was, learn enough to be able to work as a developer or junior developer, get a good job as a developer and a competitive salary. At least for me, and my colleges all that was fulfilled so I'm extremely happy with the end results of this bootcamp.
Pros
I achieved all that for me was important.
Cons
It's expensive, and a good preparation before going can be really helpful.

I love CW, even if I struggled to follow! I really learned a lot but recognize that it's only the first step of a path in my new career. During the 3 months I've made 3 projects and learn from the basics to a really good level. Everyday I had to follow first some lessons and then apply concepts on exercises and one of the key values is learning from others and doing pair programming. Instructors are great and they are there to help you anytime!
Pros
It's a full immersion with great instructors
Cons
the course has a really fast pace and sometimes you'd prefer go deeper in topics

I have made the 12 weeks full-time software engineering program. It was probably the hardest thing I attempted in my life and at the time I thought I was not prepared enough and scared for my future. Working as a developer for more than a year now, I realized how Codeworks brought me solid bases to be a logical and self proven developer. It was the best decision that I made.
Pros
The teaching is very complete, from database structure to different frameworks and back-end technologies. The teachers are good and experienced. A lot of pair pairing exercises, plus group projects that allow you to get the important thing...
Cons
You can feel sometimes you are on your own, afterwards I think it was part of the process and it makes you expert on solving your own issue. But at the time it can be frustrated. I could not stress enough the importance of your self...

Well, it was stressful as expected, working for 6 days a week for 12 hours and having weekend to recover or to catch up, mostly 2nd. But in those conditions i was able to learn so much, because there are not many teachers you are often left to your own devices and friends around you. And in those conditions i was able to learn even more by trying to explain some topics to friends or listening to them explain and trying to debug in pairs.
Pros
+ Good tech stack + Friendship bonds that will last for a lifetime + Good support from staff and people from previous batch + Meetups where you are able to meat people from the industry and talk with them about their experience, even CTOs...
Cons
- Precourse could be don't better, tho it was plan for them to improve it 2 years ago. Some people pass it and than struggle or crumble under pressure but there is fail safe mechanism that let you repeat first part of the study again so...

I attended with very minimal knowledge of the Javascript, being self-taught. The school is really intense, to say the least. You'll spend three months studying Monday to Saturday twelve hours, oftentimes more. There were many days when it got to exam time and projects where I would arrive there at 07h till about 23, studying and learning. The pre-course material is very challenging as well as it looks into the complexities of call back functions and that's just a taste of what you will learn....
Pros
intense, really challenging, friendly staff in all sections of the company, really want you to succeed.
Cons
on the pricier side(but this makes sense when looking into how many hours you are taught), looooooong hours.

I would 100% do this again the level of intensity paired with the curriculum is unbeatable you really can tell you are getting the best education. The style of teaching and the pair programming is not something I was used to coming from an American educational background and it was really lifechanging for me how much I was able to absorb in such a short amount of time.
Pros
The curriculum hands down is the biggest pro. It is well thought out and it builds upon the previous topic as opposed to learning topics separately.
Cons
If you dont manage your time well it is easy to burn out very quickly you have to make sure you focus on your physical health (sleep, diet, exercise) because if you miss one day it is a huge setback.

Choosing the right Bootcamp is not easy. I was at that point more than a year ago when I took the decision to switch my career from the HR industry to become a software engineer. At that point, I was very sceptical if this was even possible and not just some marketing trap. After completing the course at Codeworks in Barcelona and working now in the field I can definitely say that it is worth the investment. However, if you think it is a course where they help teach you how to become a...
Pros
- strong curriculum - lifetime support within the Codeworks community - proficient teachers - nice offices - freedom of choice for senior projects
Cons
- depending on the batch your co-students are sometimes stronger / weaker - lectures are sometimes too long and not adapted to the sprint afterwards

I had an amazing time and am so thankful for the experience that I gained at Codeworks. They had an excellent program structure and a great support staff to help you along the way. I managed to jumpstart my career as a developer and land my first developer job. It was a lot of work and effort but the payoff was great.
Pros
great program structure and quality content that's up to date with the latest technologies. It's a very hands-on approach with concepts and technologies that you continue to apply in your everyday job. You get the opportunity to create two...

I loved my time at Codeworks. I went to the Barcelona campus and loved my 12 weeks! They give you an amazing grasp of the basics but definitely don’t bottle feed you. It’s a lot of hard work but is definitely worth it. The teachers are patient and knowledgeable so I would definitely recommend it. Since I was there, the lectures have gone online, something which cannot comment on as my lectures were all in person. I met great people there and since leaving they have given me a lot of support in...
Pros
The teachers are patient and knowledgeable. The campus is convenient and has great sunsets. The people in my batch were really nice.
Cons
Can sometimes be disorganised with a lack of communication from the CEO.

Codeworks FAQs

What Is Codeworks Cost and Tuition?

Codeworks’ bootcamps cost $6,500 to $8,900 for remote students in the United States. The lower Codeworks tuition cost corresponds to the Web Development Immersive bootcamp, and the higher Codeworks price is for the Software Engineering Immersive bootcamp.

Codeworks costs money no matter where students attend. The range of Codeworks bootcamp costs is different for European students and students attending in person at one of the three European locations. European Codeworks tuition for the Software Engineering Immersive bootcamp is 7,800€ online, 9,800€ in Barcelona and Berlin, and £9,400 in London. For the European version of the Web Development Immersive course, the Codeworks prices are 5,200€, 6,500€, and £6,200 respectively.

Codeworks is not free, but it does offer a free Intro to JavaScript course. You should take this course if you’re curious about Codeworks’ bootcamp prep options, or if you just want a crash course on JavaScript. Either way, the free Codeworks prep course can set you up for success in one of the main bootcamp programs, whether you’re interested in Codeworks’ online courses or its in-person courses.

What Is the Codeworks Acceptance Rate?

The Codeworks acceptance rate is undisclosed. The bootcamp uses a selective admissions process to weed out unserious students and keep its job placement rate close to 100%. Codeworks does not accept everyone who applies, but instead puts applicants through a rigorous Codeworks interview and coding challenge. Both of these admissions tests require candidates to prove their basic understanding of various elements of code.

How Can I Pay for Codeworks?

You can pay for Codeworks tuition using one of three financing options. The Codeworks payment options include the following:

  • Upfront payment
  • Loan financing
  • Deferred tuition

You pay for Codeworks regardless of what program you enroll in. Codeworks deferred tuition is not available for the Web Development Immersive program. If you choose to pay with this financing option for the Software Development Immersive program, you will owe approximately 15% of your salary for the first two to three years after you find a job.

You may pay for Codeworks using the upfront payment, student loan, or deferred payment options if you are enrolled in the Software Development Immersive program. The upfront payment and student loan options are also available for the Web Development Immersive program.

To qualify for Codeworks deferred tuition, students have to have a valid work permit for Europe, the USA, Canada, or Australia and must find employment in these areas. Lastly, applicants from minority and underrepresented communities are given priority.

How Do I Apply to Codeworks?

The Codeworks application process is fairly straightforward. The steps to apply for Codeworks are as follows:

  1. Fill out the online form. The prompts on the website are easy to follow, and involve a preliminary Codeworks admissions test, which will be used to determine your eligibility for the Codeworks interview.
  2. The video interview involves questions about why you want to attend the school and your career goals. You also get the chance to ask questions about the school and the program.
  3. Applicants are then subjected to a second, more technical Codeworks interview, which tests their programming abilities and problem-solving skills.
  4. If you pass these two interviews, you will complete a coding challenge that has a strict deadline.

You get into Codeworks by passing the two interviews and the coding challenge. Codeworks is hard to get into, especially for beginners. The website has an FAQ section devoted to advice for students looking for ways to ace the Codeworks application process.

How Do I Get Accepted Into Codeworks?

You get accepted into Codeworks by completing its application process and passing its admissions tests. To increase your chances of acceptance, you can take the free JavaScript pre-course to prepare for the coding challenge.

What Is the Codeworks Admission Process?

The Codeworks admissions process involves multiple stages, starting with an online application form on the Codeworks official website that asks for basic information such as your name and email address.

  1. After filling the form, you’ll get an email link to complete an admissions assessment. If you pass this test, you will be contacted for the next stages of the application process. If you fail the test, you can retake it.
  2. After completing the test, your first interview will involve talking about Codeworks, your background, and why you want to attend the bootcamp.
  3. The second interview is a technical interview that tests your knowledge of programming, your problem-solving skills, and your understanding of coding concepts.
  4. If you pass the two interviews, you will then qualify for a coding challenge where you will be given an assignment and a deadline.
  5. If you are successful in the coding challenge, you will be accepted into the school.

To pass through the tests successfully, it is advised that you take Codeworks' prep course on JavaScript, which is completely free. This will equip you with the knowledge needed to complete the tests and increase your chances of acceptance. The entire Codeworks admissions process takes about six weeks on average.

What Codeworks Interview Questions Should I Expect?

The Codeworks interview questions you should expect are different for the non-technical and the technical interview.
