The thing I learned most from this class is how to code. I thought it was a great introductory and quick way to pick up this skill. The lessons were great, and I loved how the projects helped apply the skills we learned. I also loved how the other classmates were all here to learn and the fact that the class does not focus on the grades but instead creates an environment to learn, practice, and make mistakes. However, one thing I wish the class did better on was to spend more of class working...

Hello, my name is James Bang and I have an Applied Mathematics degree from the University of Georgia. I graduated back in May 2020 during an event that changed the course of many people’s lives, Covid-19. As I was scrambling to graduate and look for a job, Covid-19 made it very difficult to achieve these goals, causing me to be lost and extremely stressed. Society kept pressuring me by constantly bombarding me with questions of what I am going to do after graduation. This pressure weighed on me...

Tech Talent South has been an amazing experience that has helped me develop confidence and enthusiasm within our development community. Its also taught me how to network within the industry and meet like-minded people to grow with. I feel truly lucky to be able to be a part of TTS community!
Pros
The staff members are incredibly caring and supportive. Instructors give numerous code examples that supplement their slides and labs/assignments. They check into in their class' Slack channel to give extra guidance if anyone is lost, so...
Cons
Just as others have said, the slides need some TLC, but I have heard they are in the middle of revamping them.

I graduated from Tech Talent South (TTS) 3 years ago after spending 16 years in the Marines and then holding a few different jobs after I got out. I finally realized that IT was where I wanted to be, but really didn't have the time to do a traditional college route, or even be self taught. I needed the transition to be quick and as painless as possible so I could continue to take care of my family. Enter TTS. I did there Ruby/Rails Code Immersion course (It has sense been updated to use Java,...
Pros
Very knowledgeable instructors and a talented back office for support. Content is updated and relevant. Good alumni communication and future assistance. Good payment options if you can't pay the tuition upfront.
Cons
Bootcamps can be intense if you don't have the right mindset.

I did the java immersion full stack program through TTS and loved it so much. It really changed the way I process and understand things, also my cohorts were some of the best. It was pretty fast paced but teaches so many things not just the front end but also back end stuff.
Pros
My teachers Lionel and Laura were very knowledgeable and super helpful and so were the TAs. Lots of gained knowledge. Cohorts and contacts for networking and future opportunities.

I joined TTS at the beginning of the pandemic as a student when things weren't particularly easy for me, or anyone else. They provided me with resources and superb instruction for refreshing and expanding my coding knowledge. My instructors were phenomenal, two in particular, Gary and Marissa, both took the time to give me added attention and help mentor me towards genuine understanding. While the curriculum occasionally needed updating (due to the ever-changing nature of coding languages),...
Pros
The instructors and leadership genuinely cares about the students, the instructors are personable and very understanding. I went through a degree of medical problems, and Gary did everything he could to be understanding and available to...
Cons
With all coding languages etc, the curriculum did need to be updated on occasion in accordance with updates to individual packages in the languages being covered. Overall, I don't have many complaints.

TTS was a great experience and I’m glad I went through the program. It helped me gain the foundational knowledge I needed to land a front end dev job. Honestly, you get out what you put into it. I had to network with my own connections to find a job and had to study and practice a ton on my own.
Pros
Cole was an amazing instructor. He did such a great job of breaking things down and really making sure we understood the basics before moving to more advanced topics.
Cons
Virtually no job support. I got a job from my own connections. The course is advertised as full time but we were only in class for a couple of hours a day so most of us was self-paced learning.

Who started Career Karma?

Created 1 year ago

So Career Karma was started by Artur, Ruben and myself out of our own struggles career transitioning into Tech. Our journey took place in 2014-2015 and if it wasn't for the three of us doing it together we wouldn't be here today. Once we got our high paying jobs in tech and I was working as a Software Engineer ... I say an incredible opportunity for others like me who were trying to learn how to code on their own but failing to complete their transition. Three years into us...

How do you successfully pass the technical interviews for Flatiron and Hack Reactor (Software Engineering and Cyber Analytics) ?

Good question. They are very different so I would recommend doing prep courses for both to try it out. However, then decide which specialty you're most interested in and go for those technical interviews. In preparation, definitely complete the prep course. The next steps for you should be to ask the admissions officer about the type of questions that are going to be on the technical interviews. What resources do they recommend you review to get accepted? What they think will...
