I absolutely loved my experience at Kenzie Academy, the facilitators, coaches, and tutors were helpful and refuse to let anyone fail or fall behind. The resources and study halls as well as the one-on-one help they offered was beyond amazing. Kenzie really looks out for its students and supports you every step of the way. They really do treat you like family and I made so many friends and really found my home with Kenzie!
Pros
One-on-one help, study halls, Kenzie refuses to let you give up and they don't give up on you, amazing support, people who really care about you, facilitators who really break things down when it comes to learning how to code and breaking...
Cons
None! I have no cons.

Kenzie Academy offered me a place to grow in my technical knowledge and ability. I gained experience with agile teams. I was able to work as a coach during a semester. Overall Kenzie was a place of growth for me, it was not perfect, but there were tools there and the space to grow within the community.
Pros
There was lots of support, community, and this mindset to help each other at Kenzie. I like that you could become a coach, you could schedule meetings with coaches and instructors, you could reach out and help oneanother. I feel like the...
Cons
I would have liked to see more facilitators so that we could have small teams to work with and more support. But the facilitators did their best to be there for us as much as possible.

Overall a great program with great instructors, availability, knowledge etc. I enjoyed attending my classes remotely although I do believe it would have been a very different experience if we were in person.
Pros
I learned a lot in a short period of time. Lots of information to be learned. Great instructors and clear and easy tasks to complete.
Cons
I learned a lot in a short period of time and did not have my portfolio done upon graduating.

The entire course is good, the separation of frontend and backend weren't the best executed as it went back and forth quite often.
Pros
Instructors being knowledgeable. Good documentation. Decent challenges. Good schedule.
Cons
Lack of guidance starting out. Outdated information. Instructional team only ever used Mac and weren't terribly knowledgeable about Linux or Windows. Coach support was a mess.

Most of the instructors were amazing and were great teachers. Like any job or school there are outliers. One of the things that Kenzie teaches is learning to figure out stuff on your own. They teach you the basic concepts, but they want you research a lot of the material yourself. The reason for that is that a lot of students get hired for different languages then what they might have learned.
Pros
Great community experience.
Cons
You have to do a lot of googling to learn things. I understand why they do this but it took me by surprise. Over all I liked my time with Kenzie and we will see if it pans out in the job market.

This is a full time program. I have a good balance of lecture, self study, group work, project based assignments and access to Q/A and feedback throughout most of the day. They set me up with the ability to practice extra curricular work if I have extra time.
Pros
Good balance of lectures, coursework, projects, group work and self study. Access to help and 1 on 1 appointments as needed
Cons
This is full time. I personally would struggle if I had other commitments. Make sure to advocate if you need any type of help.

There is genuine interest in every student succeeding. Kenzie isn't like a traditional college where the students have multiple teachers piling on homework for different classes. Even though there are hundreds of students, it still feels...
Cons
The only con I can think of is the fact that I can't attend on campus. I feel like distractions would be minimal for me if I was on campus everyday, even though I don't live in Indianapolis.

Although the experience has been different from what I expected, due to the Pandemic cancelling in-person classes, Kenzie Academy has provided me with great exposure to what it's like to work as a software engineer. It has provided me with support to know that it's not necessary to have all the answers or be an expert because they'll help you learn how to get there.
Pros

Who started Career Karma?

Created 2 years ago

So Career Karma was started by Artur, Ruben and myself out of our own struggles career transitioning into Tech. Our journey took place in 2014-2015 and if it wasn't for the three of us doing it together we wouldn't be here today. Once we got our high paying jobs in tech and I was working as a Software Engineer ... I say an incredible opportunity for others like me who were trying to learn how to code on their own but failing to complete their transition. Three years into us...

How do you successfully pass the technical interviews for Flatiron and Hack Reactor (Software Engineering and Cyber Analytics) ?

Created 1 year ago

Good question. They are very different so I would recommend doing prep courses for both to try it out. However, then decide which specialty you're most interested in and go for those technical interviews. In preparation, definitely complete the prep course. The next steps for you should be to ask the admissions officer about the type of questions that are going to be on the technical interviews. What resources do they recommend you review to get accepted? What they think will...
