Courses Available at The Software Guild
There are two full-time paths that apprentices can follow during their time at The Software Guild; Java or C#/.NET. The Software Guild also offers an appealing and unique structure to its part-time offerings. These flexible courses allow you to save money in the long run while building up your software skills on your own schedule.
Introduction to Web Development
This course is designed to bring all of The Software Guild’s apprentices to the same starting point before their bootcamps. After you’ve progressed to the bootcamp of your choice, you’ll have an opportunity to review your projects professionally with the help of a master coder during the first week.
On average, this course takes about six weeks to complete at around 10 to 20 hours of work per week.
The Software Guild’s .NET/C# Bootcamp is one of your two main course options. .NET/C# are very popular for developing all sorts of Windows applications, from video games to websites. You’ll be ready for junior development jobs as soon as you graduate from this program.
This course, like the Java course, requires apprentices to take an aptitude test and the Introduction to Web Development course before admission. Apprentices then embark on a 12-week learning experience that begins with instruction on object-oriented programming.
As you work your way through the first half of the course, you’ll pick up skills with basic syntax in .NET/C#, learn about inheritance and unit testing, and then start picking up extra technologies like LINQ and more. By the end of the fifth week, you’ll be able to build a fully functioning .NET/C# application from scratch.
In week six, you’ll start studying server-side programming using ASP.NET. You’ll build functional websites with forms that deliver data to the servers, and progress to learning more about building REST web services, designing databases, and more. At the end of your course, you’ll complete a full-stack capstone project and start receiving the program’s stellar career support.
This 12-week program costs $10,000.
The Software Guild’s Java Bootcamp is its other full-time online coding course. Java is used across a multitude of industries, from programming Internet of Things devices like smart lightbulbs and refrigerators to designing applications for Android. You’ll be able to build websites from the ground up after graduating from this bootcamp.
This course follows a similar path as the .NET/C# bootcamp. You’ll start the 12-week program with instruction on object-oriented programming, learning to build strong code and erase errors before a Java mastery project in week five.
In week six, you’ll start building database-driven web applications with similar tools as the .NET/C# course. You’ll also be building REST web services, designing databases, and more, but with different tools that better fit Java’s infrastructure.
This course also costs $10,000.
Digital Coding Badges
The Software Guild developed its digital badge program to offer an alternative to apprentices that may not be able to commit three months to its full-time programs. In this system, you work through each curriculum in four levels that build on each other in a flexible format.
You won’t lose any of the rigor or expert instruction that makes these programs worthwhile either. By the end of your chosen path, you’ll have the same full stack capabilities as apprentices from other programs, but you’ll have earned them on your own time. These courses let you prepare for a career change without disrupting your work schedule.
The four levels are the same for both the Java and .NET/C# digital badge programs. Apprentices learn the basics of their chosen language in level one to build a foundation. In level two, apprentices learn intermediate and advanced object-oriented programming concepts. In level three, apprentices learn how to host web services and use frameworks to create websites and validate form data. In the final level, apprentices complete their training and start preparing for their job search.
These programs split up the time commitment to make The Software Guild’s great programs available for more people. They also split up your cost commitment, in case you’re not sure if you’d be able to afford the cost of the courses upfront.
What’s most exciting about the badges program is you get a completion discount as you progress through the levels. So the first level costs $2,000, but once you complete that, you’ll only pay $2,750 for level two instead of $3,000. The same goes for level three at $1,750 instead of $2,000, culminating in a $500 discount on level four, bringing its cost down to $2,500.
These discounts add up. If you stick with the badges program until completion, you’ll pay less for the same education than if you were to attend the full-time program. The total cost of either program is $9,000.
But if you want to lessen your financial commitment to the program even more, The Software Guild also offers multiple financing options.
The Software Guild Financing Options
The Software Guild has a few great options that make its programs more affordable. In addition to the savings from the digital coding badges program, you can also take advantage of private loans or scholarships.
The Software Guild offers private loans through its partnerships with Climb and Skills Fund.
Skills Fund allows apprentices to pay for their education in plans that last for either 36 or 60 months. Under the 36-month plan, you’ll pay $400.94 every month until you’ve satisfied the payment terms. Under the 60-month plan, you’ll pay $274.11 every month. Climb offers a 42-month financing term, but for part of that term, you’ll only be paying the interest. Monthly payments under this plan range from $365 to $398.
The Software Guild offers two scholarship options to help people make the switch into tech. Through a partnership with Women in Tech, qualifying women can receive a $2,000 scholarship to cover their tuition. Through a similar partnership with Vets Who Code, qualifying veterans or active military members can also receive a $2,000 scholarship.
These financing options help apprentices lessen their financial burden as they work their way through the program. As we mentioned above, graduates are succeeding at a high rate after completing the program. There are a couple of reasons why so many alumni do so well.
