If you’ve made it here it’s probably because you’ve been considering attending a coding bootcamp. But with the astonishing variety of programs, curricula, financing options, and other factors, you’re bound to have questions. Check out Career Karma’s Flatiron School vs Thinkful report to see which of these great bootcamps is right for you.
Curriculum and Course Offerings
Flatiron School has 15-week programs in software engineering, data science, and UX/UI design, based around building a portfolio that’ll get you hired. Thinkful is one of the only bootcamps focused almost entirely on doing 1-on-1 work with a mentor through their data science, engineering, product design, or full stack curricula. Program lengths vary widely, as students are able to work at their own pace, but tend to take about 4 months if you go full-time.
What’s the Interview Process Like?
As is standard with the bootcamp interview process, applying to either Flatiron School or Thinkful begins with submitting an application online. This allows the school to assess your passion for the subject and your experience. After that, there will be a couple rounds of follow-up, culminating in a pair-programming exercise or a more serious problem set. The point here is to figure out how you approach problems, how well you work in a team, and whether you’ll fit in with the bootcamp’s culture.

Program Cost and Tuition Model
Flatiron School and Thinkful are pretty similar in terms of overall program costs: $15,000-17,000 and $16,000, respectively. And both offer financing and monthly repayment options, so you won’t be shouldering the burden all at once!
Flatiron School has in-person locations all over the U.S., as well as an online option. Thinkful is unique in being both an entirely online coding bootcamp, as well as one that is focused on learning solely through 1-on-1 work with an experienced mentor. While Flatiron School is more representative of the bootcamp structure and is suitable for a variety of learners, Thinkful works best for people who like taking a guided, Socratic approach to learning new things.
